5 Parent Best Practices for Getting the Most Out of The Morning Map

1. Display it on the Living Room TV

While The Morning Map runs great on iPads and phones, the magic happens when you put it on the living room big screen via Apple TV, Roku, Fire TV, or Google TV (or 1-tap AirPlay / Chromecast). On the TV, the routine acts as a ambient, shared clock that everyone in the family can see from the kitchen or hallway without creating a touchscreen distraction trap.

2. Build it into Your Daily Routine

Consistency builds habits! Launch The Morning Map at the exact same time every morning (e.g. right as your kids sit down for breakfast or wake up). When kids know that Tommy Toucan starts his trek at 7:00 AM every day, it creates a predictable visual rhythm.

3. Customize Station Timers to Fit Your Child

Does your child take 3 minutes to put on shoes but 12 minutes to finish oatmeal? Every child is different. Tailor each station's duration in the app settings to match your child's real-world pace rather than forcing an artificial rush.

4. Always Include Ample Buffer Time

Never schedule your routine down to the exact second. Always build in 5 to 10 minutes of buffer time right before your doorstep exit station. Spilled milk, missing socks, and unexpected shoelace tangles happen—buffer time prevents parent stress when life pops up.

5. Be a Coach, Not a Timekeeper (Don't Get Upset)

If your child dawdles or gets off track, avoid yelling or getting upset. Let the app be the objective third party! Instead of saying "Hurry up, you're late!", gently redirect them: "Look at the TV guys, where is Tommy Toucan on the path right now?" Let the bird handle the pacing while you provide encouragement.
